Both the Mason and McCulloch County Commissioners’ Courts held their first regular sessions of the year Monday morning.
Mason County Commissioners started their session with a presentation by the Texas Association Counties on Risk Management. Other action items will included the Treasurer’s report; approval of a Mutual Aid Agreement with Texas DPS for aid covering Complex Emergency Response and Investigation Planning; and reclassifying and hiring new employees.
McCulloch County Commissioners began with a discussion about applying for an Outdoor Warning Siren grant with the Texas Water Development Board.
Citing severe drought conditions, McCulloch Commissioners voted to prohibit outdoor burning in the unincorporated areas of the County for 30 days, effective Jan. 12th. Commissioners indicted the extremely dry conditions in the County created a public safety hazard that would be exacerbated by outdoor burning.
Should conditions change, the burn ban can be lifted by order of the County Judge.
With the vote by the Commissioners, McCulloch County joins Mason County in prohibiting outdoor burning at the current time. Mason County’s ban is in effect for a total of 90 days from when it was imposed two weeks ago.
