A family reunion in southeastern McCulloch County proved to be quite the adventure as floodwaters began to rise in the area of where 29 family members had gathered at an air BNB for the holiday weekend near Camp San Saba. CR 202, which dead ends where the reunion was being held, had been completely washed out by rising flood waters blocking the only exit out. Also complicating matters was the loss of power to the reunion facility as a result of downed power lines caused by the flood.

After a call for help, both the Brady and Voca Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the scene and determined how best to evacuate those now stranded by the ongoing flash flood.  First up was to get the breach in the road to the point of being passable and then work to get everyone safely evacuated.  After working to repair the road enough to be passable, a heavy front end loader was utilized to begin the process of bringing everyone out in small groups.  According to Commissioner Randy Deans, nearly half of those brought to safety were under 14.
