At Tuesday’s Brady City Council meeting, the first steps were taken by Council to turn over the city’s gas division operations over to West Texas Gas Utility, LLC of Midland with the first reading of Ordinance 1397 which establishes the formal assignment of operations and maintenance along with setting a 5% franchise fee.  Operations under West Texas Gas Utility are slated to begin on October 1, 2025, at 12:01AM.  This agreement would be valid for 10 years.

The Council also heard a presentation by Joe Solis, Electric Division Supervisor regarding the status of the electrical system and potential improvements over the next 5 years which includes replacement of a major line crossing Brady Creek in the vicinity of Walnut St.

Approval was also given for the purchase of a new commercial side load trash truck for the Solid Waste Division from Roberts Truck Center of San Angelo in the amount of $250,929.01.  Approval was also given to enter into a finance contract with Government Capital in order to procure the trash truck.  Council also approved two requests for EDC funding – a building improvement grant to Frontera Heathcare for $45,000 and a building improvement grant and a facade grant to Vision Heights Daycare for a total of $20,000.

In other action, Council approved an amended resolution in opposition to the proposed LCRA/Oncor 765 KV transmission line proposed to cut through southern McCulloch County, approved the first reading of Ordinance 1398 to remove West White St from the city’s truck route map, approved Commercial National Bank bid to be the city’s Depository Bank for the next 4 years and approved the purchase of 850 tons of limestone rock asphalt cold mix in the amount of $100,206 for use in road maintenance for the next fiscal year.

Mayor Groves recessed the regular meeting at 7:35PM and the Council then met for an Executive Session for deliberations about real property (Police Station / Fire Station / G. Rollie White).  Following the Executive Session, a motion was made and seconded to create a committee chaired by Curtis Owens to provide oversight for the Fire Station Project as Council is adamant that this becomes the next big project for the City of Brady.  Motion was approved 5-0 and with no other business to consider, the meeting was adjourned at 8:34PM

The next regular Brady City Council meeting will be on September 2, 2025 at 6PM.
