At their meeting Monday night, the Brady ISD Board of Directors adopted a Calendar for the 2023-2024 School Year that will include both five-day and four-day weeks for Brady schools.
Appearing on KNEL’s Morning Program Tuesday, Superintendent Dr. Hector Martinez said the District will alternate between four and five day weeks next year. In the Fall, Dr. Martinez said under the modified schedule Monday would be the off day in the four-day weeks due because of concerns about the effect on high school football activities on Friday. Then, in the Spring, the day-off will be on Friday, since many Spring sports such as golf and tennis are played on Monday.
Dr. Martinez observed that, in rural Texas, school districts have to find ways to be competitive with other schools in the area, and to be able to recruit and retain teachers. He noted, also, this has become a trend and that the teacher shortage has really pushed the District to do something different.
Also at the Monday night session, the Board canvassed the results of the May 6 election, and swore in the two returning Board members. The Board also set June 19 as the date for a Budget workshop as they start preparation for the next school year.
Enrollment in Brady schools now stands at 947, virtually the same number as were enrolled the end of the last school year.
