“Welcome Country Music Fans” is the collective attitude across Brady and the Heart of Texas as the 34th Anniversary celebration for the Heart of Texas Country Music Association got underway Friday.

Over the course of the next 10 days, the Festival will feature  22 individual shows, dances and performances with more than 30 country music artists taking part.

The Heart of Texas Music Festival grew out of the Hillbilly Hits radio program originated by Tracy Pitcox on KNEL 33 years ago when was still a teenage.  Over the years, the event has evolved into a destination event for  traditional country music fans across the country and from a number of foreign countries.  This year, advance tickets were purchased by residents in 22 states and six foreign countries.  In fact, one of the highlights of this year’s show will be the return of a sizeable number of international visitors to the event.

At Friday night’s kick-off performance, a sold-out crowd of 500 people were entertained by Gene Watson and his Farewell Party Band at the Brady Civic Center.
