While area residents are thankful they did not experience the devastation and deadly flooding that occurred in the Kerr County area, the after-effects of the heavy rains and flooding Thursday night and Friday caused lots of damage in the Heart of Texas and Northwest Hill Country.
On Friday, there were numerous reports of flooding causing road closures in Precincts 1 and 2 in McCulloch County. In addition flooding of roads, many residents saw the waters in their homes. There were also reports by area residents of water in their homes caused by leaky roofs. The McCulloch County Courthouse was one of those locations damaged by water from a leaking roof.
Among the McCulloch County roads reported to be closed or damaged by floods on Friday were County Roads 212,208,214,220,216,202 and 1851– all in Precinct 2.
As of Saturday, flood waters had receded, but area residents were still dealing with roads and homes damaged by the floods.
Precinct 1 County Commissioner, Carol Anderson, reported on Saturday that two bridges on County Road 138 — one East of Melvin and the other North of Melvin — may still not be passable. The Commissioner indicated she was not sure when they will be evaluated for structural soundness. Also, the bridge on County Road 116 is passable, but has not been evaluated for structural soundness. Residents in those areas are urged to consider avoiding those bridges until they can be determined to be safe for travel.
In Mason County, U.S. 377 near Erna Sands was reportedly closed due to flood damage.
(Brady Creek just downstream from Richards Park was running full Friday morning.)
