Leon Freeman Receives Brady Chamber Lifetime Achievement Award

The Brady/McCulloch County Chamber of Commerce held its 2023 Annual Awards Banquet Thursday night to recognize outstanding citizens in the community and to celebrate successes of the past year.

Lohn ISD Superintendent, Leon Freeman, was recognized with the Lifetime Achievement Award for 2023.  Freeman joined Lohn School 42 years ago, and, over his career, served as a teacher, football and basketball coach, principal and Superintendent. for the past 28 years.   He and his wife, Anna, announced recently they will both be retiring at the end of the current school term.

The Citizen of the Year Award was presented to Mike Wallace for his enthusiastic and energetic support of students at Brady High School where he works, and for his support of Brady Bulldog sports.

Recognized as the Educator of the Year was Laurie Hollubec who is currently the principal at Brady Middle School.

The Outstanding Community Organization was presented to The Haven Family Shelter which is now completing its 20th year of operation focused on helping individuals and families.

The Small Business of the Year Award went to McCulloch County Abstract operated by Donald Barley. Recognized as the Large Business of the Year was Brady Communications.

The Agri-Business of the Year Award went to Joe Boy and Mackie Johnson, owners of the Johnson Ranch which has been recognized by the Texas Dept. of Agriculture as a 100-year Family Heritage Ranch and for their efforts in building and maintaining the Ranch’s operations.

Also recognized at the Banquet were Norma Hagen who was named the Chamber Volunteer of the Year and Joanna Cross who received the Director of the Year award.
