Texas State Senator, Charles Perry (R-Lubbock) announced Thursday he had filed a Senate Bill and a Resolution designed to secure a Texas-size investment in water as prioritized by Gov. Gregg Abbott in his State of the State address in February.

Sen. Perry’s Senate District includes a major portion of West Central Texas.

Legislation proposed by Sen. Perry would dedicate $ 1 Billion per year to the Texas Water Fund for 16 years beginning in 2027, with 80% if those funds reserved for financing new water supply projects.

The Senate Bill proposed by Sen. Perry would make sweeping changes to the financial assistance programs for local water infrastructure administered by the Texas Water Development Board.

In announcing the legislation, Sen. Perry said, “Water scarcity is no longer a distant threat — its here, and its already disrupting the lives of Texans across the state. “
