Texas A&M Forest Service urges continued wildfire awareness as warm, dry conditions persist across Texas

WHO: Texas A&M Forest Service

WHAT: Texas A&M Forest Service is urging Texans to remain wildfire aware as elevated fire weather conditions persist across the state this week.

WHEN: March 24-29, 2026

WHERE: Statewide, with elevated wildfire potential in High Plains, Caprock, western Rolling Plains and portions of East, North and Central Texas.

WHY: The fire environment will remain abnormally warm and dry over the next seven days, continuing to dry out vegetation and support wildfire potential across much of the state.

Upcoming windy weather is expected to increase critical wildfire conditions across the Western Plains on Thursday and into Friday. Because of these conditions, elevated fire weather is likely in the Western Plains on Friday. Cooler post-frontal weather is expected statewide on Saturday.

The High Plains, western Rolling Plains and Caprock have the chance for low to moderate resistance to control through midweek in areas with dry to extremely dry vegetation. Elevated fire weather and near-record high temperatures later in the week may increase fire potential.

East, North and Central Texas will support low to moderate potential for fire through Friday, and weather after the front may support the potential for moderate resistance to control across the northern half of East Texas on Saturday.

Texas A&M Forest Service encourages Texans to stay aware, stay prepared and stay informed as conditions change. For additional information, visit: tfsweb.tamu.edu/wildfire-and-other-disasters and keep up-to-date by following x.com/AllHazardsTFS
