Despite making the long trip to San Antonio, it was all Brady Bulldogs on Friday night as they went to work early and kept up their torrid pace throughout the game en route to 60 to 0 victory over the San Antonio YMLA Lions to open the 2025 season.  After trading fumbles early in the 1st quarter, Ethan Bernal opened the scoring for the Bulldogs a 6 yard run for a touchdown following the recovery of a blocked punt by Brady’s defense.  The 2 point conversion was successful and Brady led 8-0.  On YMLA’s first play from scrimmage after the punt, Brady’s Johnny Roque gets a pick 6 and runs the ball 40 yards for a Bulldog touchdown.  Following the successful 2 point conversion, Brady increased their lead to 16-0.  The Bulldogs next score came when Quarterback Sean Jacoby took the ball to the endzone on a 14 yard run. The 2 point conversion was not successful so the score remained 22-0 in favor of Brady.  The Bulldogs would get one more touchdown as Ashton Taylor scores from 7 yards out with about 3 minutes left in the quarter extending Brady’s lead to 28-0. The 2 point conversion was no good.

With a minute into the 2nd quarter after the Lions turned the ball over on downs, the Bulldogs had possession of the ball at midfield.  On the very next play, Ashton Taylor breaks free for a 50 yard scamper to the endzone for his second touchdown of the night.  After a successful 2 point conversion, Brady extended their lead to 36-0 over San Antonio YMLA.  With about 4 minutes to go after Lions turned the ball over on downs, Sean Jacoby goes on a 54 yard romp into the endzone for his second touchdown on the night which brought the score to 42-0 in favor of the Bulldogs.  Alijah Stark gets the 2 point conversion that extends Brady’s lead to 44-0 which was the score at halftime.

Brady got the ball to start the 3rd quarter and with just over a minute later, Sean Jacoby connects with Ethan Bernal on a 70 yard pass in the endzone for another Bulldog touchdown. The 2 point conversion was good giving Brady a 52-0 lead over the Lions.  With about three minutes to go, YMLA turned the ball over on downs which would lead to a 29 yard run by Sean Jacoby who picked up his third touchdown on the night.  He also picked up the 2 point conversion with a short run into the endzone.  After 3 quarters, The Brady Bulldogs led by the score of 60-0 over San Antonio YLMA.  With no scoring in the 4th quarter by either team, the Brady Bulldogs preserve the shutout and defeat the YMLA Lions 60-0 for their first win of 2025.

On reflecting back on Friday’s game, Brady Head Coach Jaron Roberts had this to say, “You always worry, you know, first game of the year, pregame jitters, you know, shooting yourself in the foot. We had a turn over there early. You know, those are the types of things you worry about as a coach, especially going on the road.
But our kids locked in pretty quick after that. We got a couple of quick scores on some short fields, and I think we settled in after that and played pretty well, offensively and defensively.
Overall, you know, we didn’t have very many penalties. We had three penalties total.” He added, “Overall, it was a good start, a good effort by our guys and, you know, they’ve been working hard, so we’re super proud of them to get out there and get them a victory and some of that hard work start paying off.
When asked about the upcoming game with Mason Coach Roberts replied, “I expect this to be a really good football game and I expect to get Mason’s A game.”

Next up for the 1-0 Bulldogs will be a classic rematch with the Mason Punchers at the Puncher Dome this Friday at 7PM.  The 0-1 Punchers are coming off a tough 48-7 loss on the road to Wall.
