The Lohn Eagles improved to 4-2 on the season with a big team win 56-6 over the Mullin Bulldogs this past Friday night as heard on KNEL-AM 1490!
Coming into the game, Mullin was picked by Six Man Football as a 45 point favorite, but the Bulldogs could not keep up with the Eagles who turned the tables on Mullin. The Eagles offense, defense and Special Teams all played a significant role for the Lohn Eagles who took control of the game early.
Offensively, the Eagles ground game came alive as Joe Anthony DelaFuente ran for 119 yards rushing along with 2 touchdowns. Barrett Brock, Sergio Sandoval and Fermin DelaRosa each had a rushing touchdown as well. Big blocks were made by Fermin Dela Rosa, Kadin Reeves, Connor Nuncio and Dallas Keller. In the air, Barrett Brock went 3 for 3 on pass completions with 3 touchdowns. Connor Nuncio caught two of those receptions, both for touchdowns with his longest reception being 58 yards. Kadin Reeves was the recipient of the other touchdown pass as he bowled through defenders to get across the goal line.
Defensively, discipline was the name of the game as the Eagles kept the Bulldogs at bay. Tackles were evenly dispersed as Connor Nuncio, Callum Slatton, Phillip Juette and Sergio Sandoval led in tackles on the night. Philip Juette had multiple fumble recoveries as one came off a huge hit by Connor Nuncio. The front three were led by senior Callum Slatton. The secondary also made key plays as they clipped the Mullin Bulldogs air attack. Sergio Sandoval, Dallas Keller, Barrett Brock and Fermin DelaRosa all played major roles in covering the Bulldog passes with Dallas Keller scooping up a key onside kick recovery.
The Eagles will advance to 5-2 on the season and 1-0 in district as Panther Creek has chosen to forfeit their district opener to the Eagles due to injuries, which gives the Eagles a 2-0 win and two weeks to prepare for Rochelle. There will be no varsity home game this Friday night.
The Junior High Eagles had a great battle against Mullin’s Junior High on Thursday night as they came up just short 26-27. Offensively, the JH Eagles were led by QB Cooper Fore who pitched the ball all night to Kaylin Reeves and Dean Sansouci both of whom had key touchdowns. Paydon Owens and Braylon Owens did a great job blocking on the night as well. On the defensive side, Dean Sansouci, Keldyn Sparks and Peyton Slatton had a big night with multiple tackles and big stops. The JH Eagles will travel to Panther Creek for their district opener this Thursday with kickoff at 5:30PM.
