Despite the threatening weather conditions around the area, it still was a great night of football in McCulloch County as all three teams won their 2024 season opener.

The Brady Bulldogs got off to a great start as they score a field goal on their very first possession and would later tack on 24 more points in the second half to seal their win over the San Antonio YMLA Lions 27-0 at Bulldog Stadium.  The Bulldogs racked up 359 total yards on offense with 40 yards passing and 319 yards rushing and got balanced scoring from Sean Jacoby, Johnny Menefield and Ashton Taylor who all ran for a touchdown.  Ashton Ramsey chipped in 2 field goals and an extra point.  Next up for the 1-0 Brady Bulldogs will be a match up at home with the always tough Mason Punchers. Kickoff is set for 7 PM.

It was especially memorable for the Lohn Eagles as they traveled to Olfen to take on the Mustangs looking to end a nearly nine-year losing streak.  Fortunately, the Eagles prevailed in a big way with a 53-6 road victory over the Mustangs that ended with seven and a half minutes to go in the first half. The Eagles scored 7 touchdowns and had 258 rushing yards on the night.  Barrett Brock led the Eagles in rushing with 136 yards and 2 touchdowns. Jase Moreno ran for 82 yards, 2 touchdowns, and a touchdown off an interception.  Fermin DeLaRosa and Joe Anthony DeLaFuente each ran for a touchdown. Lohn Head Coach Walt Brock praised the team’s effort by saying “A great overall team effort, all phases.  I’m excited about the season and all the hard work our student-athletes have put it.”The 1-0 Lohn Eagles will be at home this week as they play the Lueders-Avoca Raiders for Homecoming this Friday, Sept 6th at 7PM.

The Rochelle Hornets opened their season with a dominating win on the road over the Medina Bobcats 76-28.  The duo of Merek Howell and Kelton Williams combined for 324 yards rushing and 153 yards passing.  Gunnar King led the Hornets in receiving yards with 3 catches for 49 yards and a TD followed by Merek Howell with 43 yards and a TD and Jayce McCormick with 34 yards and a TD.  Maddox Howell also recovered a fumble that led to a Hornet touchdown.  The 1-0 Hornets will continue their regular season on the road at Menard on Sept 6 at 7:30PM.
