The UIL announced Friday that Mason has won the Lone Star Cup for Class 2A for the 2021-22 school year — the school’s third win in four years.
The Lone Star Cup is awarded annually to six Texas High Schools — one in each of the six UIL classifications (1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A and 6A) based on the school’s performance in district and state championships — in both athletic and academic programs. The winning school in each classification also receives a $1,000 scholarship to honor the outstanding programs at the school.
In 2021-22, Mason won three state championships — tennis, girls golf and one act play. No other school had more than one state title.
In addition to athletics, Mason academics were an important part of winning the Lone Star Cup. Mason students won the one-act play championship, along with a district championship and being a runner-up at the State academics meet.
During the 2021-22 year, Mason’s athletic accomplishments included a girls basketball appearance in the regional tournament; baseball and softball in the play-offs; football with a district championship; girls track and field; and boys basketball in the play-offs.
