The Brady City Council had much to consider during their regular meeting on Tuesday night along with holding public hearings on both the FY 2027 Budget and 2026 Tax Rate. By roll call vote, Council voted 5-0 to adopt the FY 2027 Budget (Ordinance 1418) along with approving the 2026 Property Tax Rate (Ordinance 1419) at 0.358001 on first reading. This rate reflects an increase of 7.83% over last year. Also approved on first reading was Ordinance 1420 regarding the City of Brady Utility Rates and Fee Schedule for FY 2027.
Another item was to consider establishing child safety zones within the city limits of Brady which created much discussion from several in the audience. Council Member Terry Phillips read a prepared statement on why he supported creating child safety zones. After the conclusion of the discussion, Council voted 5-0 to approve on first reading Ordinance 1421 to create child safety zones inside Brady city limits.
There were two items on the agenda that were requested by Council Members Gabe Moreno and Vicky Roddie that related to the Senior Center and the construction status of the new Fire Station. City Manager James Stewart stated that he has recently been in contact with Eikon Consulting Group as well as Fletco Construction regarding plans and pricing for the new station.
Other items considered by Council included awarding a bid for construction improvements to Techline Construction, LLC for the yearly pole and crossarm replacement in the amount of $92,750.00, and approval to amend the city’s purchasing policy and update the uniform apparel policy. No action was taken to adopt a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Incentive and Retention Policy but the policy will be revisited at the Council’s regular meeting in two weeks. The next Brady City Council Meeting will be on Sept 15, 2026 at 6PM.
