Lohn Gets First Win 28-13 over Paint Creek
After having the game postponed on Thursday due to weather, the Lohn Eagles were able to reschedule the game with the Paint Creek Pirates for Saturday morning in Moran at 10AM. The Eagles were very eager to play the game despite being scheduled for Saturday morning and came away with their first win of the season by the score of 28-13 over the Pirates.
There was plenty of exciting action throughout the game as the Pirates led early 6-0. Levi Felipe put the Eagles on the board when he returned an interception 25 yards for a touchdown helping to turn the momentum in Lohn’s favor. Abel Solis added the two-point kick, giving the Eagles an 8–6 lead. Austin Ellison added another touchdown in the second quarter on an impressive 32-yard run. Solis again converted the extra-point kick, sending the Eagles into halftime with a 16–6 lead.
The third quarter was a hard-hitting defensive battle, with neither offense able to generate much scoring. However, the Eagles continued playing physical football. Lohn added two more touchdowns before the game was over with Sergio Sandoval breaking free for a 42-yard touchdown run to add to the Eagles’ lead. The extra-point attempt was not successful as the pass sailed just off of Dean SanSouci’s fingertips. The final Eagle TD came when Henry Martin found the end zone on a 30-yard touchdown run. The extra-point kick was not successful, but Lohn gets their first win of the season by the final score of 28-13.
The Eagles (1-2) next travel to Olfen this Friday night to take on the Mustangs (1-2) on Homecoming Night for Olfen. The Varsity game will follow the conclusion of the Junior High game which kicks off at 5PM.
Rochelle Rallies Just Before Halftime to Upend the Eden Bulldogs 57-26
With ominous skies overhead, the Rochelle Hornets went to work and gutted out a 57-26 win over the Eden Bulldogs at Sanders Field in Eden. The game was delayed until around 7:30PM and on Rochelle’s first drive, Elijah Veirs went the distance for a touchdown giving the Hornets an early 6-0 lead. The Eden Bulldogs were then able to retake the lead adding three touchdowns in the first and second quarter to go up 18-6. The Hornets responded with three touchdowns of their own (two by Kendrick Teague and one by Maddox Howell) to retake the lead 25-18 with just seconds left in the first half.
After halftime, the Hornets came alive and were able to bottle up the Bulldog offense and take advantage of key fumbles and penalties limiting Eden to just one second half touchdown. The Hornets were able to drive hard on the Bulldogs and 32 points to win going away 57-26. Overall, Rochelle’s Kendrick Teague had three touchdowns of the night (two rushing and one receiving) and also had a pass completed for a touchdown. Maddox Howell scored on two rushing touchdown and threw for two more. Elijah Veirs picked up a second touchdown in the third quarter. Kendrick Teague, Kasyn Keeney and Jamison Vallee each had a reception for a touchdown. The Hornets put up 428 yards of offense with 282 yards rushing and 146 yards passing for the game.
Next up for the Hornets, who improve to 1-2, will be the 0-3 Lometa Hornets who will be Rochelle’s Homecoming opponent this Friday (Sept 18) at Hornet Field. Kickoff will be at 7:30PM.
