At the Brady City Council meeting on Sept. 15, Brad Isbel with Eikon Consulting Group described the proposed fire station which is to be built where the current police station now stands.
Isbel indicated the cost would range from about $8.9 million to possibly $10 million. After a lengthy discussion, the Council agreed to schedule a workshop on Tuesday, Sept. 22nd to consider the fire station plans in more depth.
Appearing on KNEL’s Morning Program prior to the Workshop session, Brady Mayor Tony Groves said he believed the Council should take the data they have and make a decision on which way the City should go and start down that road.
The agenda for the Workshop session incldued discussion of all City of Brady facilities — Police Station, Fire Station, Animal Control and the Senior Center. And, the Council made a decision about the future of three of the four facilities — the decision to re-locate the Police Station to the former Heritage Funeral Home is already in the works.
With regard to the Fire Station, the Council’s decision was to move ahead with plans for building a facility designed to meet all the Department’s current and foreseeable needs at a proposed cost of about $9 milliion. The City has just over $4 million in reserve allocated to funding the Fire Station. LHowever, a decision on exactly where the Fire Station will be located has not yet been finalized

The Council also finalized a decision to move the Senior Citizens Center from the Civic Center to the old Southward Cafeteria on West 11th Street. Funding for that move will be tied to financing related to the Fire Station.
As for Animal Control, Mayor Groves indicated the Council had decided for the City to carry out construction of a new facility itself.
