City Commission Approves Utility Easement, Interlocal Agreement With County for CVT Services, Turns Down TWDB Funding

A good crowd was on hand for Monday night’s special Mason City Commission Meeting with over 40 persons in the audience.  During public comments, several in the audience spoke on the issues surrounding the utility easement for the Habitat for Humanity development for about 25 minutes.  Ultimately, the Commission did approve the request to accept public utility easements from Mason County Habitat for Humanity by a vote 4-0 later in the meeting with Commissioner Keller recusing himself.  Next up was to hold 2 public hearings – one for a replat for 117 Orange St. as requested by Kyle and Selah Eckert and the other for a conditional use permit for 246 Ft. McKavitt St. to allow serving/producing alcoholic beverages in a C-1 zone. (No public comments were made on either request).

Following the public hearings, Mayor Robert Rayburn adjourned the Commission into Executive Session at 6:10PM for consultation with the City Attorney and reconvened at 7:31PM to continue with the remaining agenda items.  An item of interest was the consideration of an interlocal agreement proposed interlocal agreement with Mason County concerning Concho Valley Transit.  County Judge Sheree Hardin spoke to the Commission concerning Concho Valley Transit (CVT) which recently began operating in Mason County.  She asked the Commission to approve an interlocal agreement to pay half of the $45,000 cost.  $22,500 would be the city’s share.   Transportation Director Jeff York from CVT spoke to the Commission regarding the service provided to Mason County.  To date, 1,228 trips have been made in Mason County since began in March.  After some further discussion, the Commission approved the interlocal agreement along with amending the budget with Mason County for Concho Valley Transit services by a 5-0 vote.

Other agenda items considered included approval for a conditional use permit for Mason Beer Company, LLC. to allow serving/producing alcoholic beverages and approval of a replat application for 117 Orange Street for Kyle and Salah Eckert.  The Commission however voted 5-0 not to accept the funding from the Texas Water Development Board at this time and also took no action on a proposal for redistricting city election districts to bring them into compliance.
