It was an incredible weekend for Brady’s Academic UIL team as 17 Brady High School students competed last Friday and Saturday at the 3A Region 1 UIL Academic Meet at Abilene Christian University and 5 of those will be advancing to the State UIL Academic Meet at the University of Texas in Austin on May 19–20. Overall, BHS placed 6th out of 56 schools who participated.
On Friday, after three preliminary rounds, both Randie Ratliff and Delilah Faison advanced to the final round in debate. Faison finished 6th overall based on speaker points and win-loss record while Ratliff battled through three final rounds to finish in 4th place which earns her a spot as a state alternate! The Debate team coached by Natanya Turk.
More success came on Saturday with the Current Events team consisting of Preston Parsons, Carter Rutherford, Jordan Painter, and Morgan Phillips capturing the team title with a score of 198, tying the highest regional score in Texas across all conferences 1A–6A. Brady had three finish individually in the top five in Current Events –
1st Place – Preston Parsons
3rd Place – Carter Rutherford
5th Place – Jordan Painter
Parson’s total score ranks 3rd in the state, while Painter’s multiple-choice score ranks 2nd in the state. The Current Events team coached by Rex Ewert.
Others who advanced include Jooniper Bucholz who placed 2nd in Headline Writing and will be going to state. She is coached by Erin Rainey.
Preston Parsons also placed 3rd in Informative Speaking, qualifying in a second event and is coached by Natanya Turk.
