It was a tremendous outing for six Brady HS students who represented Brady at the 3A State UIL Academic Meet  held on Tuesday and Wednesday at UT Austin.  Those participating included Preston Parsons, who advanced to the finals in Informative Speaking, while Jooniper Bucholz became the first Journalism student from Brady to compete at State in Headline Writing.  The Current Issues & Events Team consisting of Jordan Painter, Carter Rutherford, and Morgan Phillips also qualified for State.

On Tuesday, the Current Issues and Events team struck gold as they racked up a record-breaking team score of 230 (out of 240), the highest of ANY school from 1A–6A, to win the State Championship.  Individually, Parsons earned a perfect score of 80 on the multiple choice portion and finished in 2nd place overall while Painter finished in 3rd place, Rutherford in 5th place and Morgan in 11th place.  Coach Rex Ewert led this powerhouse team to a performance for the record books.

Parsons also placed 5th in Informative Speaking finals, closing out his academic UIL career with several medals.  Rutherford placed 4th in Congressional Debate, and he and Parsons placed 3rd in CX Debate which gives Brady High School 4 Speech & Debate medals this year under the guidance of Coach Natanya Turk!  A big shoutout to state alternate Gunner Pearce, for helping the team prepare and run smoothly, and also to Randie Ratliff and Delilah Faison for serving on the State Honor Crew.

Out of 138 schools in the 3A division, Brady High School placed 9th overall at the State 3A Academic Meet with 63 points and 8 medals, possibly their best ever finish in school history!
