A large number of county residents were present during Monday’s Commissioner’s Court meeting to express their concerns regarding the proposed high voltage power lines that is planned to come through southern McCulloch County.
County resident Dave Edmiston spoke at length regarding his opposition to the high voltage line proposed by ONCOR/LCRA to cut through the county. He asked the Court if they would be willing to help in their fight against the proposed location of the line which would create a 200 ft easement across several landowners property. Also discussed was the renewal of a lease for the Texas Department of Public Safety at the Sheriff’s Office. County Treasurer Mikki Williams indicated that current lease only covers the actual space leased but not the utilities used. The final discussion item centered on the special road and bridge tax and related taxes in regards to county roads.
Commissioners then moved into the action items. Several commissioners had concerns about agreeing to a 10 year lease extension for the space currently used by the Texas Department of Safety and the fact that utilities are currently paid by the County. As a result, Commissioners opted to table taking action on the interlocal agreement and any possible changes until more information could be provided.
Due to the absence of Library Director Mary Ann Gutierrez at Monday’s meeting, Commissioners tabled approving the Library Service Agreement for landscaping until the next meeting. Other items considered included approval for CTTC to begin construction in the right of way of CR 300 to provide telecommunication service to customer along with approval to extend the Declaration of Local Disaster originally filed on July 8.
With the completion of action items, Commissioners then recessed for lunch and later reconvened into a budget work session. Next meeting of Commissioner’s Court will be on July 28.
