A large crowd gathered on all the streets surrounding the Mason Courthouse Wednesday morning at 10:30 to watch the setting of the new cupola atop the Mason Courthouse.
A large, heavy duty crane began the process by slowly and carefully raising the new cupola up and over the south side wall of the Courthouse. Then, it ever-so-gently moved to position the cupola over the mounting that had been installed on the Courthouse roof. With a workman on each side and one underneath, the new copula was slowly lowered into position.
When the task was done, the workmen on the roof who had installed the new structure gave a wave of the hand and a thumbs-up to signal the job was complete. And, at that point, an enthusiastic cheer went up from around the square to celebrate another key milestone in the restoration of the 100-year old Mason County Courthouse.
