Mason Election: School Bond Fails, Beatty Elected Mayor

(CORRECTION:  In our initial report on the results of the Mason election, KNEL incorrectly indicated there would be a run-off election in both the City Commission District 3 race, and for the At Large Seats on MISD Board of Trustees.  A Run-Off will not be required in either case.)

 

When Mason voters went to the polls this past Satujrdayh, hey were voting for candidates for Mayor and City Commission; for  two members to the School Board of Trustees; and deciding on the fate of a proposed Bond Issue for improvements to school facilities.

School Bond Issue

In the Mason Independent School District Bond election, Mason ISD voters turned down the $35 million Bond issue proposed by the Board.

The election results showed 633 votes against the Bond proposal, with 378 votes cast in favor.  Of the total 1,011 votes cast, 62% were opposed to the bond issue, compared to 38% voting to approve the measure.

The Bond issue on the May 2 ballot was to fund building a new academic building at Mason High School; a new Gym with locker rooms; demolition of the existing Academic Wings and renovation of the existing roof and HVAC.  Also in the proposal was a new HVAC in the Gym at Mason Jr. High.

Mason ISD Board

The election of two membesr to serve in an At Large positions on the Mason ISD Board of Trustees

Joe David Yates –  616 votes

Kathryn Martin – 534 votes

Jon Hills – 423 votes

Yates and Martin were elected to the Two At-Large seats.

City of Mason

In the City of Mason election, William Beaty was elected Mayor, defeating Anna Velez for the post.

In the Mason City Commission election, John Gammill won elected to the District 3 seat.

Amy Horton Townsend – 19 votes
