This is the time of year when local governmental entities are busy wrapping up the budget planning process for the next fiscal year — holding public hearings on budgets and proposed tax rates, followed by votes to accept the budgets and set the taxes for the year.
Monday – Aug. 31 –
McCulloch County — As part of their regularly scheduled session, McCulloch Commissioners will hold a Public Hearing on the proposed budget at 11:15am, followed by a Public Hearing on the proposed tax rate at 11:30. They’ll vote on each after the Public Hearings. The tax rate being proposed for McCulloch County is .61 cents per $100 valuation.
Mason County – Mason Commissioners held public hearings on their budget and tax rate at their meeting on August 24th. The adopted a “no revenue increase” rate of .67 cents per $100 valuation.
Brady ISD — A Special Meeting of the Brady ISD is set for Monday at 6:00pm. After approving the final amendments to the budget, the School Board will hold a Public Hearing on the budget, followed by a vote to adopt that budget.
Next, the BISD will hold a Public Hearing on the proposed Maintenance and Operations and the Interest Tax rates. The proposed rate for 2026 is at the “no revenue increase” level of .96 cents per $100 valuation — down from .95 cents last year.
Mason ISD – At their Public Hearings Monday, the Mason ISD Board will be considering the adoption of a tax rate for 2026 of .74 cents per $100 valuation — the same rate as last year.
Tuesday – Sept. 1 –
Brady City Council — At their regular meeting Tuesday evening, the Brady City Council will hold Public Hearings on the proposed budget and tax rate at the beginning of their session at 6pm. Votes on both will be taken during the regular session. The proposed tax rate is at the “no revenue increase” level of .35 cents per $100 valuation.
Lohn/Menard ISD — The Lohn and Menard School Boards held their public hearing and tax rate votes during the past week — Menard on Tuesday and Lohn on Wednesday. Menard’s proposed tax rate is .66 cents per $100 valuation – the same as last year. Lohn ISD also proposed a tax rate that is the same as last year at .71 cents per $100 valuation.
