Monday’s Commissioner’s Court meeting was standing room only as several citizens were present to address the issue of elected official pay raises with Commissioners. Commissioner Young was not present for Monday’s meeting. During Public Comments, there were a number of citizens that expressed their opposition to giving the Commissioners a raise. Also expressed was opposition to the LCRA/Oncor 765KV power line proposed for southern McCulloch County. Going into discussion items, Walt Broyles with the USDA NRCS spoke to the Commissioners in regards to possible funding to repair county roads damaged in the recent flood. Next was a discussion on Policy, Procedures, Protocol for Federal & State Disaster Assistance regarding the July 2025 severe storm/flood event in McCulloch County.
Moving on to action items, Commissioner Anderson brought up that McCulloch County does not have a procurement policy which would require that any purchase over $50k requires 3 bids. A motion was then passed to follow the State’s procurement policy. Commissioner then discussed the Text My Gov service the county provides to county residents and what would be the best option to go with going forward. A motion was made by Commissioner Bratton and approved Commissioners to go with a four year extension for $2500 a year.
After some discussion amongst the Commissioners, a motion was made to approve 5% increase for elected officials along with vehicle stipends but the motion died due to a split 2-2 vote (Commissioners Bratton and Deans voted yes with Commissioner Anderson and Judge Trull voted no). As a result, this item will be considered at their next meeting on August 14. Other items approved by the Court included an interlocal agreement between McCulloch County and the Regional Public Defender Office Local Government Corporation for court appointed counsel for those charged with capital murder, a request for unclaimed property capital credits from the State Comptroller’s Office and a status report from Library Director Mary Ann Gutierrez detailing donations, memorials and monies received in June.
Next meeting of Commissioner’s Court will be on Monday, August 4 at 9AM.
