The Mason City Commission held their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday and while only having a few item on the agenda, the majority of attention was given to Item 2 which dealt with approval of a public utility easement for Mason County Habitat for Humanity.  There were two citizens present who expressed their opposition for approval with one citizen expressed their approval.  The main point of contention was over the ownership of the road easement that goes through the property that Habitat owns and is planning to build homes.  Commissioner William Beatty asked for a legal opinion from the City Attorney about who actually owns the road.  After two failed attempts to pass a motion, the Commission opted to revisit this item in a special meeting on June 30.

In other action, the Commission unanimously approved the 2026 Mason County Appraisal District budget and the consent agenda, but took no action on two agenda items regarding needed maintenance for a bulldozer and trash compactor until oil testing on the equipment could be completed.  (Mason Mayor Robert Rayburg was unable to attend the Commission meeting).

The next Mason City Commission meeting will be on June 30, 2025 at the Richard P. Eckert Civic Center at 5:30PM.
