McCulloch County Commissioners began their meeting Monday with four discussion items. Two of those items dominated the discussions and consumed the major of the time of the session.
Over two hours were devoted to the first item — a request by Caprock RE LLC to lease one acre of land out of the 14-acre tract owned by the County for a Battery Storage System project adjacent to the substation located at 400 E. US Highway 190. In advance of the meeting, Commissioners have pointed out there have been no plans presented yet of the type of facility Caprock RE is proposing.
While there was little specific information about the plans for a Battery Storage unit, residents attending had lots of questions and opinions about the wisdom of having such a facility in the County.
With a lot of information still to come about the facility, there was no decision by Commissioners at the Monday meeting. Commissioners tabled the issue until their June 8th session.
Another item drawing lots of attention from local residents was the proposed routes for a 765kV transmission line planned for the area. The Public Utilities Commission recently published a listing of revised routes being proposed by LCRA and ONCOR. Lauren Bedwell addressed the Commissioners to share personal impact and letters of testimony that could be used in any potential public hearing before the PUC.
McCulloch Commissioners have scheduled a Special Session for Wednesday, April 22nd at 10am to consider whether the County can or should contemplate requesting to become involved in the Public Utilities Commission review process as an intervener in the 765kV line review process.
