In response to the spread of the New World Screwworm north of the Panama Canal into southern Mexico, the Texas AgriLive Extension and AgriLife Research will present a webinar Monday, June 9th at 2:00 pm to bring together entomology and animal health experts to provide information on the threat to Texas producers.
The Webinar will be start at 2:00pm and will be shown in both McCulloch and Mason Counties. In McCulloch County, the webinar will be shown at the McCulloch County Courthouse. In Mason County, the webinar can be seen at the Eckert Community Center. The webinar is scheduled to end at 4:30pm.
The webinar will focus on providing updates on the current threat from the New World Screwworm. North America had been consider free of the New World Screwworm since 1966. But, the NWS re-established north of the Panama Canal in 2023 and has since entered Mexico.
The webinar will cover NWS identification, the biology and threat of the NWS, prevention and treatment strategies, the impact on native wildlife, the public health perspective for both people and pets and the importance of the Government response and surveillance programs.
