Merica Bourbon announced over the weekend the purchase of a 14,000 square foot building located at 210 North Blackburn Street in downtown Brady. The building will be used by Merica to expand their brands and distribution partners as they continue building the company’s future.

T Byrds Sign Shop was most recently located in the building at 210 N. Blackburn.

Merica Bourbon currently makes bourbon and beer that is distributed in 45 states. The bourbon is produced in Lawrenceburg, Indiana in a distillary formerly operated by Seagram’s.

Merica Bourbon is a veteran-owned, high-quality and affordable bourbon created in 2017 by former Marine Derek Sisson and partner Daniel Alarik. The owners describe their whiskey as designed to embody American freedom and patriotism. The small-batch whiskey is produced in Indiana and focuses on having a smooth, bold and distinctively American flavor profile.

Sisson, a former Force Recon Marine, transitioned from importing wines to creating his own spirits brand to honor American values. He said the goal was to create an affordable, high-quality, and patriotic bourbon that celebrates American freedom and the “American Dream”.

Sisson partnered with veteran entrepreneur Daniel Alarik, founder of the apparel brand Grunt Style, to bring the brand to life.

Sisson served five years as a Force Recon Marine and compares the Special Forces to the “entrepreneurs” of the military world. After leaving the Corps, Sisson says he was forced into entrepreneurship because he needed to make a living but “..there weren’t a lot of companies looking for airborne qualified office managers.”

Sisson started and eventually sold an ecotourism business before getting involved in the fitness industry. His business travels took him to Europe where he explored vineyards and worked in wine distribution before entering the bourbon business.
