The issue of the new Brady Fire station and the process involved on where it would be located led to some vigorous discussion during Tuesday nights’ Brady City Council meeting.  City Manager James Stewart gave a presentation to Council outlining the progress of the fire station project since 2021 outlining the various steps taken previously to secure an appropriate location for the facility.  A number of citizens present at the meeting voiced concerns about the additional costs involved with choosing a location other that at 201 S Elm St which is adjacent to the Brady Police Station.  Another concern raised was over how much had already been spent in past years on this project.

After little over a hour of sometimes passionate discussion among Council, City Manager Stewart and members of the audience, two motions was made – one to rescind the vote taken on March 3 approving the agreement for professional services with Makers Design Collaborative, LLC in New Braunfels and the second to direct staff to proceed with plans to locate the first station at 201 S Elm St.   Both motions passed 3-2 with Council members Moreno, Phillips and Roddie voting in favor and Council members Ledezma and Owens voting against.

In other action, Council approved two zoning items on first reading for 1308 S Melville St for a manufactured home, along with an amendment to the Brady Zoning Ordinance to require a Specific Use Provision for concrete or asphalt batch plants in Commercial Districts.  Also approved were the purchase of two trucks, one each for the Solid Waste Division and the Streets Division and a request by the Heart of Texas Music Fest for $10,000 in Hotel Occupancy Tax funds.

The next meeting of the Brady City Council will be on April 7, 2026.
