Mason City Commission Finalizes Budget, Tax Rate

At their monthly meeting Monday, the Mason City Commission gave final approval to both the City budget for next year and the tax rate for this year. Mason Mayor Frank Bartlett noted is a balanced budget that includes a 15% across-the-board increase for City employees.  The Mayor said the Commission said the pay rates for City employees had fallen behind other municipalities, and this move helped to bring employee pay more in line.  To pay for the raises, the Mayor said the tax rate was increased by less than .07 cents per $100 valuation.

Other items on the Mason City Commission agenda Monday night included an executive session for discussions with the City Attorney regarding the on-going litigation with Blue Oak Engineering; approving the City’s Rate and Fee schedule ; and approving Sharon Fisher Roberts as a part-time Attorney for the City.
