McCulloch County Commissioners met in a Special Session Monday morning, with just three items on the agenda.
The major issue addressed by Commissiones was authorizing the County Judge to sign a resolution and ordering the termination of the tax abatement agreement between the County and Rattlesnake Power LLC.
The original agreement provided that McCulloch County would forego collecting a portion of County taxes due on the Rattlesnake operation in return for a commitment from Rattlesnake Power that it would create five permanent local jobs and those jobs would be located in McCulloch County.
In their discussions, Commissioners indicated that Rattlesnake had failed to meet that requirement. The County notified Rattlesnake in January of 2023 of the default, and told them they had 90 days to cure the default. Commissioners said that, to their knowledge, Rattlesnake had made no effort to cure the default and had basically ingnored communications from the County.
With that as background, the Court voted Monday to terminate the Tax Abatement Agreement with Rattlesnake Power and ordered the law firm working with the County to notify the company and to initiate the process to recapture all of the County taxes that had been previously abated.
