Despite threats from inclement weather, there were a number of competitors from the Heart of Texas who competed in last week’s 1A UIL State Track Meet held at the University of Texas in Austin and several were State Champions. Sophomore Danni Ruiz from Menard defended her titles in the girls 400m and 800m runs, Brice Roesler from Richland Springs took the title in boys Shot Put and Ronni McClain from Zephyr was the girls champion in Pole Vault. Additionally, the Richland Springs Boys finished in third place as a team.
Area teams competing included Cherokee, Rochelle, May, Menard, Richland Springs and Zephyr.
