At their meeting Monday morning, Mason County Commissioners’ Court accepted the resignation of County Judge Sheree Harden, effective August 17.
Commissioners then appointed Shannon Worrell to serve out the remainder of Harden’s unexpired term that runs through Dec. 31st. Worrell was given the oath of office and sworn in as the new County Judge.
Judge Harden had announced late last year that she would not be seeking re-election this year for the post as County Judge. Worrell was the winner of the Republican Party primary election for the open seat. Since there is no Democrat candidate on the Nov. ballot, Judge Worrell is in line to assume the post on Jan. 1st.
Commenting on her term as County Judge, she said serving as Judge had “truly, truly been the honor of a lifetime, and I am so incredibly grateful for those who paved the path before me. And, I am incredibly excited for Judge Shannon Worrell who will step into this office and move Mason County forward in a good way.”
Judge Harden will not be retiring after leaving office. Her new role will be as an Assistant to the Mason County Attorney and as the County’s Indigent Healthcare Coordinator.
